God’s Love Devotional – Week 2

Weekly Theme:
What Happens When a Person Becomes a Christian Part 3

1 John 3:1 “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!”

Monday

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”   John 1:12

Last week we started talking about what happens to a person when they become a Christian. This week we are going to continue. Remember the two things from last week?  We become a new creation and our sins are forgiven.

So many wonderful things happened when we became a Christian! The next one we will discuss is one of my favorites. When you received Jesus and became a Christian you became a Child of God!. God actually became your Father.  “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God”   John 1:12 What a wonderful thing!  You became a child of the living God and He became your Heavenly Father.

Take Action: Thank God for saving you and for becoming your Heavenly Father

Tuesday

Mat 7:11  If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Let’s think about some of the attributes of a good earthly father. A good father loves his children. A good father takes care of and provides for his children. A good father is always there to listen and give advice. Now, no earthly father is perfect. There are all human. But, God is a father who will never let you down! He will always take care of you and love you. You can always count on Him!

Take Action: Confess This:  “I am a child of God. God is my Father. He will take care of me no matter what!”

Wednesday

1 John 3:1  Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!

When Jesus came on the earth – He began using a word that was very unfamiliar to the religious Israelites. He started referring to God as your Heavenly Father. Many of them could not understand God in this way – they only knew Him as God. But Jesus began to teach on the revelation that God was their father. This bring Him to an intimate relationship.

The revelation of the fatherhood of God has changed my life. When you really understand that He is your Father, and He loves you like a father loves his child it changes everything. You understand and know that He always has your best interest at heart. Jeremiah 29.11 says that God has plans for us, plans to prosper us and to give us a hope and a future. He loves you with an amazing love! Even greater than the love a father has for his child!

This truth will anchor your soul. Even though things may be tough – things will be ok because Your Heavenly Father loves you. Even though you may have failed many times – God – your Heavenly Father loves you as His child. He will never give up on you. He wants the best for you.

Take Action:  Take 5-10 minutes to memorize today’s verse (1 John 3.1)

Thursday

Gal 4:6  And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”

The word Abba in this verse means Daddy or Papa. It’s a word that shows what a close intimate relationship God wants to have with us. We can know God in such a close way that even though He is Creator, and God, he is also our Papa or Daddy! Sometimes religious people don’t understand this. But God desires for you to get to know him as Father and Daddy.

Take Action: Spend some time today just telling your Heavenly Father that you love Him.

Friday

What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For

we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with

them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be

my people.”Therefore, Come out from them and be separate, says the

Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” And, “I will be a

Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord

Almighty.” 2 Co 6:16-18

Before Jesus came God’s people could only know Him as God. But it was God’s dream to have us as His children. It was His dream to be a Father to us. When God dealt with the Israelites in the Old Testament, they were His people and He loved them, but they could not have the same relationship with Him that we can have. At best, they could only be servants. We can have such a greater relationship – children of God!
